This Way to October

Well, I hope you enjoyed Christmas in September. I know I did. (If you missed the posts, don’t worry – I’m sure I’ll pull a few of them back out in a couple of months.)

But now we’re headed into October, and the kids are in a swivet of anticipation because of HALLOWEEN! We’re planning on much more fun this October than last year, and we’ve already started decorating. In other news, last night I finally sat down and made something for a friend.

Aww. Punkin face.

A friend of mine from Japan asked me – oh, months ago now, maybe in February?! – if I would make a pumpkin hat for her baby due this fall. (You remember the pumpkin hats, right?) Well, since I am awesome about doing things before the last minute (cough, cough, NOT) and her baby was born three weeks ago, I figured it was time. I used the pattern I wrote up after the pair I made, and even the same orange yarn. I had leftovers.

But guys, guess what I found in my skein?!

It's my lost G hook!

IT’S MY G HOOK. One of my first hooks I ever had, I was so convinced that I had somehow lost it during our stint in Okinawa that I just sat there staring at it once I had dug the obstruction out of the center of the skein. It’s kind of crazy; I haven’t seen that hook for two years, during which time we went from Okinawa back to our home in Japan and back to the US (and all around inside of it). But bam! There it is, spots with the color worn off and all, pretending that it never left. Secretly I’m kind of hoping that it’s brought all of its good crochet mojo back with it; it always was a great hook.

I guess we’ll see. Bring on October!

Awww…that reminds me of my first knitting needles. Man I did some INSANE knitting with them (before I realized you could knit back and forth on circulars). They’re so bent out of shape!

I love this pumpkin hat and I have a lot of friends who are having babies in October and after making one, I now have requests for a few more lol. What a cute idea. Congrats on the “BOYS”!!!!

Wow, it is great that you found your first hook. You can bring back the good old times spent knitting together. It still looks in good condition by the way. I can’t wait to see your work done using your beloved hook.
