Blech.

Yesterday was not the best day. Max and I were sick. Probably some variant of the flu – although I say probably because I’ve never had a flu quite like it before. Neither one of us had a discernable fever, we each completely emptied our stomachs exactly twice, went to sleep, and were over it. Not fun, although I did lose about 4 pounds yesterday. (…yay?) At first we thought it might be food poisoning because of the lack of fever, and because Charlie was fine, Greg was fine, and Wren was fine. Greg says that other people at work are out today with the same thing, though, so I suppose it was a bug. Come to think of it, we probably picked it up at the hospital when we went Tuesday to get Charlie his shots. Blech. Blech, blech, blech. (Hah. If it’s a next-day bug, that means Greg and Wren may be puking today. Isn’t sharing germs fun?)

So what do you do, in a wobbly haze, with no strength to be anywhere but on the sofa? You knit I-cord, of course. I have no idea why, except for the fact that my dpns were still out from the snake sock puppet and it let me rest between every three stitches. Seriously. I came down this morning to find about five inches of I-cord attached to my needles, stuck in a skein of yarn on the loveseat. Here’s hoping today goes better.

A Little Coding, A Little Crafting

So, Inner Child Crochet has a new entry page. It serves a bit more of a purpose than the previous one. In the three months or so since I made it, I slowly developed a distaste for a homepage that says nothing but ‘come in.’ It got to the point that whenever I linked somewhere, I linked to the ‘welcome‘ page, instead of the homepage, and that should tell you something. Now it fits more closely with the style of the rest of the site, and I’ve added thumbnail links to new and favorite patterns. I like it. I’m gonna work on it. This month will be a little different in terms of updates: anything I’ve got I’m going to put up as soon as it’s ready. Why? Hmmm… I’m hoping to get some new visitors soon. We want things to look nice for new visitors, don’t we?

Anyway, I finished something I designed for Max this morning.

snakes

How cute is that? It’s a ‘sock puppet’ style snake. He’s been using a regular sock for a snake, and I thought I’d make him a real snake in an attempt to get it back. I probably should have made it a little longer in the hand, but it fits and he likes it, and that’s what’s important, yes? It’s a simple design, but I’m pretty proud of it (especially the tongue shaping!) since it’s what I meant to do and my first knitted toy. It’s actually also my first knitting project made with more than one color. Here’s hoping the tongue doesn’t fall off.

For the record, Red Snake and Blue Snake got along beautifully.

Relics from the WIP-box

Yesterday’s monkey was at the top of my WIP box. Digging deeper, I found something I hdn’t seen in quite a long time:

quilt

This is a quilt-top that I made back in high school when my grandmother was teaching me how to quilt. It was just a simple block pattern, baby-sized. To make it more interesting, I decided to embroider something on each of the large blocks. The embroidery (which, looking at it now, was quite the massive undertaking) is finished, but I haven’t backed it. It’s for my daughter. Since I haven’t got a daughter yet, I don’t feel too much pressure to finish it. (Oh, and to all of my relatives who said I couldn’t possibly give something that beautiful to a baby to use, I’ve had two now and I disagree. Babies are nice to their things. Toddlers, on the other hand, are murder with sticky fingers. She won’t get to use it once peanut butter enters the diet, but I’ll give it back when she’s older.)

Man. Looking at it, I loved doing it so much. Although many (in fact, most) of these designs were inspired by other artwork, these were all done from my own drawings. Click to see the designs more closely.

Gee, that gryphon looks familiar… Sorry for the poor lighting. It’s what we’ve got. I love the artistic element of embroidery, but the thing is – you need something to embroider on. And I can’t seem to come up with too many things that ought to be embroidered, so I don’t do it much. I want to do it more…I need to think about it.
