One Hour For Fiber

I have a lot going on in my life right now, and it feels pretty hectic. It turns out, though, that there’s a small annual fiber fair held less than a mile from my house, which I have not attended two out of the last two years. This year I decided to take an hour and go check it out. I wasn’t expecting much – maybe some quilts and a couple of sheep – but there was a surprising amount of beautiful yarn produced by local fiber artists and their animals, not to mention looms and spinning wheels, batts and spindles, and also an assortment of very fluffy rabbits. I’d love to go back next year without kids and with a shopping budget (the opposite of this year).

This year I settled for some photographs.

A quiet little fiber fair.

Sunlight in the yarn.

Beautiful hanks of yarn.

Actually, I wish I’d left the kids home so I could take some more pictures. There was so much handmade beauty there!

(Mini) Mini Chocolate-Chip Cookies

Okay, so there is literally no reason for these to be as much fun as they are.

But they are.

(Mini) Mini Chocolate-Chip Cookies

Nobody in the house was able to resist these tiny little cookies, and everyone who ate them had a much bigger grin than ‘regular’ chocolate-chip cookies would produce. Give them a try!

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Cream the butter and sugars.
  2. Add egg and vanilla; mix until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking soda.
  4. Mix flour mixture into butter mixture until combined; stir in chocolate chips.
  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  6. Scoop by half teaspoons onto an ungreased pan; bake for about 7 minutes.

This makes between 10 and 12 dozen tiny cookies (the amount will vary widely by exactly how big you make your cookies, and, um, how much of the dough you eat before it hits the pan). My cookies ranged between an inch and an inch and a half in diameter.

I think these cookies would be fun for a tea party or for a snack with dolls (the mini chocolate chips mean that they’re to scale!) and they’re definitely good for children – as my children will tell you. They were excited because they got to eat six or seven cookies. Ha. Hahaha.

I’ll definitely be making these again.

9 Years of Blogging

May marks the 9th anniversary of this blog. How’s that for craziness? To celebrate, I’ve updated with a brand new look. In addition, there is a random post widget in the sidebar that will pull up any of the nearly 700 posts I’ve written over the last nine years. Confession: I’ve spent way too much time this week reading old blog posts. I can’t believe it’s been so long! How about you? How long have you been reading? How many of these do you remember?

Here are some post highlights, one for each year of the blog.
