Distraction

A lot of things have been going on lately, seriously impinging on my crocheting time. I don’t really mind, though, since these aren’t the big, lifeshaking ’somethings’ that were making such a fuss in our lives earlier this year. Just little things. Spending time with Greg and Max, gardening, getting sunburned at our neighbor’s (wading) pool party…yes, the parents of toddlers have some strange ideas about a good time, but those were some good chicken wings, dang it!

At any rate, I thought I’d stop in and leave a note. I have only one crocheting project in the works at the moment, dangling teasingly near completion. Hopefully I will pick up my hook again soon and be able to finish it by my self-appointed deadline, but we shall see.

*cough* *gasp* Aaaaaaah! KNITTY!

If you’re a cross-crafter, like I am, you probably already know that the new Knitty is up. And it looks fabulous! Topi looks tight, Reid is precious, and does anyone else love, Love, LOVE Nagano Sakura?

What really has me breathless, though, is this:

Do you know what that is? That is a nautiloid.

I love it. I want it. I have to have it. You probably have never guessed this about me, but I love paleontology. I seriously considered it as a career choice into my teenage years. And forget T-rexes and brontosaurus, I was in love with the smaller, the older, and the more weird. I mean, I told people that my favorite bird was the Archaeopteryx until I was twelve. Knitting myself a nautiloid would be perfection. Of course, I seriously doubt that I currently possess the knitting expertise to do it. If I’m feeling particularly lazy in that department, I may just create a crocheted version. Too bad she didn’t pair it with a trilobite…
I should totally do that!

And in other news, sometime after my last post and before this one, my ticker passed 50,000 hits. I’m famous!

Something finished at last!

Woohoo! I finished a project! And oh, it’s soooo cute…

It’s SO fast and SO easy and SO cute that I think that I’ll make more the next time I have a sister or friend having a baby. Of course, the next time I make it, I think there are several changes that I’d like to toy around with…but my main concern is that I do not happen to have a 0-3 month-old child on which to try the sweater. So I’m not sure how it will fit…this sweater will, however, go into testing ASAP, so hopefully I’ll have a better idea of things within a few days.

At any rate, I’m getting my groove back. Aside from this personal designing project I’m working on, I’m scheming a little something to submit to Crochetme to help me apologize to Kim. Would you believe, I promised her a pattern for the Spring issue and I didn’t deliver? I’m so ashamed. I know I had a LOT going on, but well - I’m ashamed.

We’ll see how this goes.
