The Lord Said to Noah

“Go and crochet an Arkie, Arkie!” Heehee. A few months ago my search for a Noah’s Ark crochet pattern ended in - well, I was utterly unable to find a free Noah’s Ark, but I bought one off of e-patternscentral.com for five dollars. It’s nice! Of course, it doesn’t have a zebra, and I don’t like the ark pattern (I’m going to make an ‘ark’ tote, instead) but it was far and away the best one I could find. The plan was - and still is - to have it finished in time for my son’s birthday at the end of the summer.

I made good headway, but then I got sidetracked by something. Then something else. Then something else, and so on, the end result being that I haven’t worked on it for about a month and a half. Here’s what I have completed, so far:

As you can see, there are only a few pairs done so far, and unless I do something quick, giraffes will disappear from the world! But blech, what is worse than picking up in the middle of a huge project? I’m sure it’ll be fun once I get into it again, but I don’t wanna!

More About Me…

Well, since you asked - I’m a young mom, I’ve been married over two years and my (as of yet) only child is due to have his first birthday at the end of July. It’s so much more fun to make things for babies - not only is your child powerless to keep pompom or bunny-eared hats off of his head, but they work up so much more quickly than a sweater or an afghan . . . I can’t seem to stop making toys for my son, they’re so fun! And besides, I’d rather give him something made of yarn to play with than a plastic toy of questionable quality. Or durability.

I, too, often have to pry strands of yarn from my baby’s chubby, determined fingers if I’m careless enough to leave my materials within about two feet of the floor…

Here I am!

Here I am, my own crochet blog! Such fun. At any rate, I’m Melissa, a stay-at-home mom with too many hooks. Not enough yarn, of course, but can you ever have enough yarn? I’m also easily distracted by new projects, and at the moment I have at least four unfinished projects aside from the one I’m actually working on lying around in buckets and baskets and bags. And yet, for some reason, I keep scouring the internet for interesting new patterns - which I’m sure you’ll agree there is no lack of when you have something else you should be working on…it’s only when you’re really between projects that you can’t find something to start.

So come say hi, and welcome to my own little corner of the web!

The project that never ends

I went shopping for new yarn about a week ago, and I decided to try something new, so I bought some worsted weight cotton yarn and this - some DMC Traditions mercerized cotton thread. I like lace, especially soft handmade lace. My mom used to tat, but I never learned how, so I decided to try crocheting some lace. Unfortunately patterns for it seem to be in short supply, and this was one of the few that I could find that I liked. (If anyone has links to nice lace patterns, be sure to let me know!)

At any rate, this is what I have finished so far. Click the picture for a better view. :D

Oh, and here’s the adress of the pattern I’m using.
