If You’re Not First, You’re Last

I don’t post many pictures of my husband on the blog, but I wanted to post one today, because he just looks so darn good:

Greg has decided that since he’s already thrown caution to the wind, quit his job, and moved to Arizona (of all places) to learn to fix motorcycles, he might as well explore another interest of his…

racing. Turns out he’s not bad at it, either. Apparently if you want to race motorcycles, you don’t just go do it. You have to go to the track and practice. And practice. And practice. And then, when you get good enough, you have to get a racing license, at which point you can start racing. Yesterday was Greg’s first day on the track, so we’ll probably be spending more than a few Saturdays like this:

As always, Tommy and Teddy are thrilled.

Crochetvolution Update

yarn

Well, I’ve been talking to crocheters around the internet about my upcoming webzine, Crochetvolution (you remember, I announced it a couple of weeks ago?) and I’ve made an addition to the planned publication that I’m really excited about.

If you’re an independent crochet designer and you sell your own patters, you can submit a design that has not yet been published to be featured in the the Premium Pattern Catalog. The designs in the Premium Pattern Catalog will be available to purchase directly from their designers (on their own sites), I’m just collecting them to showcase great crochet design for the readers! If you’re interested in being featured in the Premium Pattern Catalog, you can find the submission guidelines here!

And, just a reminder, if you’re interested in contributing patterns or articles to the Fall issue you can find those guidelines here!

Also, I’m hoping to feature photos from crocheters of their beautiful work. If you’ve made something you think is worth bragging about, why not submit a photo to the Crochet Showcase? We’d love to see it!

Submissions are due May 1st, so you’ve still got about two months to create something.

Etsy Diving: Spring

Because it’s about that time, isn’t it?

It's spring over at Etsy!

1. Daffodil Stud Post Earrings by strandedtreasures 2. Tiny Red Robin Ring by jennykitty771 3. Original Daffodils Watercolor by seasidestudiosUK 4. Crocus Garden Photo Print by DMpics

I haven’t really seen any daffodils or crocus around here (although goodness knows it’s warm enough) and certainly not any robins, but they say “Spring!” to me in a way nothing else does. Isn’t that watercolor just so vivid? I love it!

Lovely!

5. Mariko Sakura Asymmetrical Necklace by ririfisch 6. Crocus Flowers Watercolor by acupofgreytea 7. Leafy Spring Tree Vinyl Wall Decal by vivinn 8. Turquoise and Brass Robin’s Nest Necklace by rhondastreasures

I don’t have any place I could put it, but I love that giant wall decal. The quasi-nonsensical English on the wall reminds me so much of Japan! Also, the use of turquoise beads as robin’s eggs is inspired! I’ll have to remember that if I’m ever tempted to make some robin’s egg jewelry – which I totally am right now.

I love early spring, when the snow starts to melt and the birds come back, the crocus and daffodils poke their way out of half-frozen ground and everything starts over new. It makes me a little sad to know that it’s happening (or about to happen) all around the country and even back in Japan…but not here.
