Good Voodoo?

It seems that the return of my G hook really did provide some good juju, because I have something to show for myself.

Mummy Dearest at Inner Child Crochet

Look! It’s a mummy! I’ve mentioned several times recently how my boys are obsessed with Halloween and spooky things. I’m not immune to these suggestions. I am, however, very pleased with the way I was able to fuse spooky and adorable in this little amigurumi. If you think it’s as cute as I do, by all means head over to Inner Child Crochet where the pattern is for sale. This is only the second pattern I’ve listed in my shop this whole year. Whoops. I’ve meant to add more. I guess I’ll work on that.

Monday Morning Link Party: XII

Good morning all! I have a new pattern!

It's a flat hat!

It’s a flat hat! One of the easiest ways to crochet a hat…ever. Basically, you crochet a rectangle, seam it up, and put it on your head. I’ve sized it for toddlers and children, so now you too can put rectangles on the heads of people too young to resist you. What? It’s cute!

There were a lot of nice autumnal links this week. We checked the weather at family’s house last night and Greg said, “It says it’s 54 degrees there right now. That can’t be right, can it?!” I reminded him that it’s October (everywhere but here) but he was still blown away. In case you were wondering, we’re still aggressively air conditioning here during the day, but we don’t have to have it on at night which is going to make a HUGE difference on the electric bill, I can tell you.

…Where was I? OH, right – fall! These beautiful fall centerpieces collected at Under the Table and Dreaming, for instance.

I think I’ll just enjoy the pictures, though. I’ve seen what this weather does to pumpkins and gourds, and it’s not pretty. Eww.

Next up: Pumpkin Cinnamon Streusel Pancakes (?!?!) from Two Peas & Their Pod.

I can’t believe I just wasted the last of my fresh pumpkin on a stupid pie. Ah well! Pie pumpkins are only $1.49 at the store, haha!

While we’re on the topic of food, check out these Popcorn Ball Jack O’Lanterns from A Heart Full of Love.

They look pretty tasty and if we made these my kids would go nuts. Plus, the pretzel rod would make a great handle!

Finally, check out this Big Snowy Owl from the Purl Bee.

They used giant yarn, which would make it go faster, but that is one giant stuffed owl. It’s cute too!

Whew! Well, ready to link up again?

  • I’d love to see something interesting. It can be something you posted or something you ran across, but please link to the specific post instead of a website.
  • Feel free to link to as many as you like!
  • Have a recipe? A tutorial? A finished project? Philosophy on life? Anything? I’d love to see it.
  • Ads, links to shops, products, giveaways and spam will be deleted.
  • Don’t forget to check out the other links and show everyone some love!

This Way to October

Well, I hope you enjoyed Christmas in September. I know I did. (If you missed the posts, don’t worry – I’m sure I’ll pull a few of them back out in a couple of months.)

But now we’re headed into October, and the kids are in a swivet of anticipation because of HALLOWEEN! We’re planning on much more fun this October than last year, and we’ve already started decorating. In other news, last night I finally sat down and made something for a friend.

Aww. Punkin face.

A friend of mine from Japan asked me – oh, months ago now, maybe in February?! – if I would make a pumpkin hat for her baby due this fall. (You remember the pumpkin hats, right?) Well, since I am awesome about doing things before the last minute (cough, cough, NOT) and her baby was born three weeks ago, I figured it was time. I used the pattern I wrote up after the pair I made, and even the same orange yarn. I had leftovers.

But guys, guess what I found in my skein?!

It's my lost G hook!

IT’S MY G HOOK. One of my first hooks I ever had, I was so convinced that I had somehow lost it during our stint in Okinawa that I just sat there staring at it once I had dug the obstruction out of the center of the skein. It’s kind of crazy; I haven’t seen that hook for two years, during which time we went from Okinawa back to our home in Japan and back to the US (and all around inside of it). But bam! There it is, spots with the color worn off and all, pretending that it never left. Secretly I’m kind of hoping that it’s brought all of its good crochet mojo back with it; it always was a great hook.

I guess we’ll see. Bring on October!
