Monday Morning Link Party: XVII

Oh, a procrastinator am I: November 7th and I haven’t shown you my kids’ Halloween costumes yet. I’m going to show you Charlie’s today, and hopefully I can wrestle Thor back into his duds for a photoshoot today. Or maybe tomorrow.

Anyway, Charlie wanted to be Shaggy, perhaps the easiest costume known to moms.

My adorable little Shaggy.

I took an oversized green tee from the Dollar Tree ($1) and altered it to have a big v-neck. We added red pants – I was going to have him wear brown pants, but he said Shaggy’s pants were red and I didn’t care enough to fight over it – which we already had, black church shoes which we already had, and the little Scooby-Doo that he got for his birthday. To finish it up, I took some brown eyeliner and drew the Shaggy scruff onto his chin. Total cost: $1!

Here’s Shaggy being scared of a ghost:

Zoinks!!

I love that kid.

Let’s talk about links! First, check out these creative leaf-based decorations from A Subtle Revelry.

Leaves Four Ways by A Subtle Revelry

You know, when we move, I’m going to have trees around my house. Lots of trees. Big, leafy trees. Maple and oak and redbud and I don’t care if I have to rake repeatedly every fall. I love leaves.

Next up: pumpkin oatmeal scotchies?

I’m not sure Greg would ever forgive an alteration of his favorite cookie on the planet, but these pumpkiny oatmeal scotchies from The Sweets Life look intriguing.

These Harry Potter Halloween costumes from A Lemon Squeezy Home are spectacular.

Some of the sibling costumes that I’ve seen this year are just ADORABLE, and this is an excellent example. Can anyone think of a good ‘theme’ costume for four boys? Anyone? Bueller?

Finally, I’m assuming this Pumpkin Pie Frosting from Handle the Heat could be eaten straight from the bowl.

In fact, looking more closely at the recipe, it appears to be a crustless pumpkin pie that you beat to frosting consistency after baking. Because who doesn’t love pie on their cupcakes?!

It’s a Crochetvolution in Here!

Crochetvolution is up! I’m very excited about this issue. There are more patterns, more articles, more pictures, more contributors, and more AWESOMENESS than before!
(Edited to add: I figured out how to set up a mailing list, so if you’d like to be notified by email when a new issue is ready, go subscribe!)

Plus, you finally get to see my rejected project from 101 Crochet One-Skein Wonders.

Rose Petal Shawlette

Aww. It’s the very first shawl that I’ve ever designed. I like it. I may do some more in the future.

Anyway, go check out Crochetvolution! There’s a lot of good stuff in there. Like this, for instance…

And you’ll just have to read it yourself to see what THAT’S about.

Monday Morning Link Party: XVI

Happy Halloween!

This is what's spooky at our house.

(You like them? Agent P was for Max, of course, and Charlie requested “a really spooky face” for his. He sketched out several pictures of what it should look like for my reference.)

All right boys and girls, let’s make this quick. I still have patterns to edit and articles to format before the morrow. I’m going to save the posts about Max and Charlie’s costumes for after Crochetvolution is published. Oh, I am so excited to launch this issue. We have more contributors, more patterns, more articles, and more features than the first issue. I can’t wait to see the reaction to it. Hooray!

So let’s check out the links and I’ll get back to work, shall I?

First up, prepare to be amazed by this Thor costume from I am Momma Hear Me Roar.

Thor Costume from I am Momma Hear Me Roar

Sigh. Leggings and a onesie, why didn’t I think of that?! Not that I think I could have found a onesie to fit my tall and lanky seven year old. Still. Check it out, she made that helmet out of cereal boxes. Awesome!

Let’s see….have you seen these pipe-cleaner-and-yarn spiders from Make and Takes?

It’s a simple idea that looks easy to make and is also adorable. Score!

I also love these Halloween decorations (via Happy Clippings) made from egg cartons and leaves:

…How cute is that? If only we had maple trees around here. Or fallen leaves. Sigh.

Finally, I love these Rice Krispie Ghosts from the Idea Room.

It’s Halloween! And I have work to do! Ahhh!
