UFO Rescue

So…anyone remember this? I started my Baby Sophisticate in September of last year, and got it all finished except for the buttons. I swear I looked for those buttons everywhere – at the craft store down in Okinawa, at the craft store up here, at the hundred yen store, at every online button emporium imaginable, and yet I just couldn’t find what I wanted. It seemed the sweater was doomed to remain unfinished forever.

Then one day, I took a trip to the mall, and decided to stop by the Pandora House. Presto!

How cute are those buttons?

There were the buttons I needed. After that it was the work of no time at all to sew on the four little stars and have an impromptu photoshoot with (the smaller of) the twins. As you can see, we finished this little cardi just in time.

How cute is that baby?!?

How cute is that little sweater?!? How cute is that little buddy?!? How long will my voice stay all high and squeaky like this?!?

Anyway, the original plan was to make two of these, but I bore easily so I didn’t make the other one back in September. Maybe I still will – I bought another set of the star buttons, just in case – but we’ll see.

Out With the Old, in With the New

Welcome, 2010!

2009 was like the sucker-punch to the gut that never let up. From sickness to oral surgery, to a completely unexpected multiple pregnancy and a subsequent two-month medical evacuation to a distant hospital (which turned out to be necessary as our twins were delivered prematurely) and then the voyage home where we got to deal with two premature infants around the clock. . . let’s just say that we are extremely grateful for the clean chapter that begins today.

This month also marks something very special: my website, Inner Child Crochet, has now been around for three years. Yeah, I know. Where does the time go? Despite spending the vast majority of the year lying on a sofa, I managed to publish eleven patterns (believe me, no one is more surprised than I am) including Genevieve, the Fireman Hat, and the Concentric Stripes Cardigan. Not too shabby!

Now, I’ve always said I want to do special things for my birthday month and I never do everything I have planned, so I’m going to start the month off right with a sale that will last until the end of January! From now until the 31st, use the code 3YEARS when checking out and receive 10% off of your total order. (Not sure where to buy patterns? Well, here you go!)

In addition, I’m going to make an effort to blog every day this month. We’ll see how that goes…the most I’ve ever managed in one month seems to be 11 posts, and the last time I got that high was in October of 2008. So yeah. I’ll  try, but I have what everyone assures me is a fabulous excuse for not getting things done:

Look at them grow! They are ZOOMING!

Darn it. I still haven’t picked blog names for them.

Looklooklook!

A new pattern! I haven’t published a new pattern since…uh…(shuffles papers) June. Wow. June! Anyway, this is almost cheating since this pattern has been ready to go since the beginning of the year, but it’s so satisfying to get it published and complete.

It's an owl!

It’s a great snowy owl, and I designed it to enter in a Harry Potter – themed crochet pattern contest in the first part of the year. (Alas, I did not win.) The pattern is available to purchase over at Inner Child Crochet, for those interested.

Whooo?

I really like it. Interesting story, this owl is based on a stuffed owl I’ve had for more than a decade. My older sister and I were in a book and toy store – I think I was about twelve – and I just had to have the book of Klingon novels and the owl. (It’s really a gorgeous owl.) I didn’t have enough for both, and I begged my sister for the money to make up the difference. She let me have it, and as a result couldn’t buy something for herself that she wanted.

…I sure hope I paid her back for that…
