Just a Little Pick-Me-Up

Surprise! Notice anything different? I just decided on the spur of the moment to change the look of the blog a bit…and immediately devoted (way too many) hours to the task. Five thousand different things are up in the air right now, but the background of my blog is something I can CONTROL, dangit!

They’re coming to pack up our things in a month, you know. (La LALALALALA, I’m not listening!) Where did this year go? That wouldn’t be so bad, I guess, but we’re not allowed to box up anything. No, really. This is to prevent us from smuggling out national treasures or contraband items in between the folded socks, I presume. Also, pennies and batteries. Since I’m a slow-and-steady kind of girl, I’d feel a lot better if we were able to start boxing things up, bit by bit and box by box… a little at a time. It’s a great way to go through everything with enough time to ditch stuff you decide you don’t want to lug back across the ocean – plus, once you’ve boxed it up you don’t have to handle it again. That’s just not possible in a one-day professional mover boxing blitz.

Anyway, I added a fun little piece of functionality to the blog; if you’re on an individual post’s page, scroll down to the bottom to see some more related posts from the pasts. It’s really fun! I haven’t looked at some of those posts in literally years and it’s so interesting to read some of what I’ve written over the years. Unfortunately, I have to add the post thumbnails one by one, so expect that to take a while!

Actually I thought it was because if YOU pack something and Uncle Sam moves it and it breaks, you can’t really recoup your loss. But if THEY break it, hey, the packed it, all their fault, and they have to reimburse you for it. Or is that just an old Army Wives Tale?

Technically they do need to reimburse for it, but they do their darndest to avoid responsibility. I would certainly rather take responsibility for packing my own things than to submit a claims form after the fact. 😛

Man, I would love it if someone packed for me. I hate it. But I know what you mean about getting rid of stuff. Good luck with the move.
