Punkin Face

Before the twins were born, I decided not to make them any pumpkins. They weren’t due until late November, after all, and I thought that if I made pumpkiny things they wouldn’t get to wear them. (Or worse, that it would jinx them and they’d be born in time for Halloween.) Of course, they did end up being born in mid-October, and while they were in the NICU I quickly made up a pair of tiny pumpkin hats. You remember:

My poor little babies!

Aww. My poor, tiny little babies! Anyway, I had multiple requests for the pumpkin hat pattern as soon as I got it together. Which has been, you know, almost three months. It’s been fun, though – getting things together again, finishing projects, publishing patterns…these are all things I used to do, before. It’s refreshing. But – to the pattern!

  •  H/8 (5.00mm) hook

Gauge: 7 sts x 6 rows = 2 inches in BLO sc

Size: to fit 13″ head (large preemie, small newborn)

Row 2: Ch 1; working in BLO (back loop only), sc in each st across. (18 sc) Turn.

Repeat row 2 until piece measures 11″ in length. (To adjust for large newborn, add 2 more inches here.) Sl st first row and last row together through back loops. Finish off.

I hope you enjoy the pattern, and please let me know if you have any questions or problems.

Cables, Baby!

Two months after I started it, it’s finally finished.

Cabled baby pullover!

Of course, I started it to fit the boys two months ago, and they’ve undoubtedly been growing. I was more than a little nervous that it wouldn’t even go on. Moment of truth:

Look at the sweetie!!!

Whew. How cute is that!?! Ahem, I mean, I’m really happy with how it turned out. I designed it myself, so I was concerned about the sizing and proportions but it just turned out beautifully. I’m so proud. It took almost exactly one skein of Knit Picks Bare (Superwash Merino Worsted Weight) and I made it on size 6s so it would be nice and sturdy.

More cables!

As you can see, the cable pattern is repeated on the back,

Gratuitous baby picture!

and I did an inverted three-needle bind off at the top of the sleeves to make a neat little ridge down the seam. I think it makes a nice detail on the otherwise simple sleeves. Just one more thing:
