More Excitement in “My Life”

This weekend was the local city festival, and we went to as much of it as we could.

There were amazing, intricate floats …

Drumming and bamboo flute playing…

Traditional dances and performances of various types, including absolutely gorgeous traditional costumes…

and multiple parades over a few days. Pictured here are some of the Bon dancers. Some of them actually carried candy in their sleeves, and in between dances would hand it out to children in the crowd.

Then, of course, there was my favorite part – festival food! These cones were stuffed with fabulous crepes, fruit, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. Mmmm, crepes.

It seems that there are a lot of festivals this time of year, and what can I say? We’re trying to catch as many as we can before it’s too late. They make for some wonderful memories.

Just a Little Pick-Me-Up

Surprise! Notice anything different? I just decided on the spur of the moment to change the look of the blog a bit…and immediately devoted (way too many) hours to the task. Five thousand different things are up in the air right now, but the background of my blog is something I can CONTROL, dangit!

They’re coming to pack up our things in a month, you know. (La LALALALALA, I’m not listening!) Where did this year go? That wouldn’t be so bad, I guess, but we’re not allowed to box up anything. No, really. This is to prevent us from smuggling out national treasures or contraband items in between the folded socks, I presume. Also, pennies and batteries. Since I’m a slow-and-steady kind of girl, I’d feel a lot better if we were able to start boxing things up, bit by bit and box by box… a little at a time. It’s a great way to go through everything with enough time to ditch stuff you decide you don’t want to lug back across the ocean – plus, once you’ve boxed it up you don’t have to handle it again. That’s just not possible in a one-day professional mover boxing blitz.

Anyway, I added a fun little piece of functionality to the blog; if you’re on an individual post’s page, scroll down to the bottom to see some more related posts from the pasts. It’s really fun! I haven’t looked at some of those posts in literally years and it’s so interesting to read some of what I’ve written over the years. Unfortunately, I have to add the post thumbnails one by one, so expect that to take a while!

“My Life” is the Calm Before the Storm

The weeks are slipping through our fingers faster than we can catch them, and we’re just sort of…waiting. We’re packing up our house in about a month, and leaving about two weeks after that. It’s not quite close enough to do much, but definitely too close to ignore!

In the meantime, it seems that somebody is growing up…

Look! A dishwasher!

…maybe more than one somebody.

LOOK HE'S SITTING!

But, whenever we get hung up on what the future holds, instead of tying our stomachs up in knots we can just put on a happy face!

Teehee.

And try to wait with patience for another day.
