Actually Swiffer Jet solution is perfectly safe. So don't worry. That bit about it being poison is a HOAX someone started on the internet:

http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/swiffer.asp

I think this is a fantastic idea about making cotton covers for them!!!!!!!!!! Those cloths they come with are so expensive, and in my house with kids and dogs and cats, and we live in the desert, I use ONE of those things and it has to be thrown away after one, or 2 uses at the most!

You have a wonderful blog! I will link back to you from mine. =)

15 years ago when I was in college I thought up a fleece cover for my broom. I had 3 dogs in my house and the polar fleece really had the static electricity to attract the dog hair. It was so much better than sweeping the hair around. Not a lot of people are into reusing/recycling, I have mentioned my "invention" to friends in this area and they all think disposable is the way to go, it is sad. Maybe my fleece idea is something that will help you. I don't know how absorbant it would be though. Maybe you can make a fleece cover with a cotton insert?

Oooooh, I am making some swiffer covers! As soon as I'm done with these Christmas stockings, which are being knit in the round. Round after round after round after - maybe I'll go make a swiffer cover right now. :D
