Looklooklook!

A new pattern! I haven’t published a new pattern since…uh…(shuffles papers) June. Wow. June! Anyway, this is almost cheating since this pattern has been ready to go since the beginning of the year, but it’s so satisfying to get it published and complete.

It's an owl!

It’s a great snowy owl, and I designed it to enter in a Harry Potter – themed crochet pattern contest in the first part of the year. (Alas, I did not win.) The pattern is available to purchase over at Inner Child Crochet, for those interested.

Whooo?

I really like it. Interesting story, this owl is based on a stuffed owl I’ve had for more than a decade. My older sister and I were in a book and toy store – I think I was about twelve – and I just had to have the book of Klingon novels and the owl. (It’s really a gorgeous owl.) I didn’t have enough for both, and I begged my sister for the money to make up the difference. She let me have it, and as a result couldn’t buy something for herself that she wanted.

…I sure hope I paid her back for that…

No, Mom…

They didn’t ‘stop being cute.’

Two VERY CUTE little boys.

See?

(Also, it’s a well known fact that hats with babies in them are like, ten times cuter than hats without babies, and we’ve tried and failed to calculate how much the cuteness factor increases when you place two babies together…)

Can’t Blog, Twins are Home

or, “This Post is a Segue.”

Almost a week ago, our twins were released from the hospital. In the intervening days, we packed up our little house in Okinawa, shipped our stuff through the mail, and hopped a flight – all six of us! – back home. Max was spectacularly airsick, and the stewardesses (I’d say ‘flight attendants,’ but the Japan Airlines ladies are very much stewardesses) were very sympathetic once I’d managed to convey that it wasn’t swine flu.

It’s very, very good to be home, and we’re all settling down into our new schedule. I’m even getting enough sleep at night to avoid zombie-brain in the morning! However, I am not doing much else aside from just dealing with four kids and a house that’s been empty almost two months. (Big thanks, and I cannot say this enough, to my friends who cleaned it while I was away.) So, I have no new projects, no awesome pictures, and very little interesting content to fill this post.

My spam, on the other hand, has started telling me jokes. I have no idea why. They’re a mish-mash of the terrible and the hysterical, and when I read them to Greg (with a thick fake Russian accent) we both burst out laughing. Here’s a sampling:

‘Here is new joke! Why did the rabbits go on strike? They wanted a raise in celery!’

‘I have fresh joke for you! What do you call a cow with no legs? Ground beef!’

‘Wanna joke? Why didn’t the turkey eat very much? Because he was always stuffed!

See? Spectacular. At any rate, hopefully we can find some time for crafting in the new rhythm, because I have some things I want to get done before the boys grow too big for them.
